I've lost another of my childhood playmates to cancer--four and counting. I have such wonderful stories about Gail, the peacekeeper of us kids. She didn't like to fight. Mimi and I would go at it but Gail was the mind of reason. When she was 3 years old, she would come over to my house and knock on the door and ask my Mom if 'CaDDol' could come out and play. She grew out of her lisp. She was beautiful with her black, curly hair. I was playing with her one day in the then unfinished carport of her house and we got into a fight. I hit her. She ran in the house and told her parents--I heard her parents telling her to hit me back. Out she came and hit me back--so I hit her back. Her father came out, picked up a hammer on the carport and yelled 'Go HOME!' Scared the crap out of me! I bolted and ran home. I wrote Mr. and Mrs. Heintz a letter after my wedding, where Mr. Heintz danced with me (and Gail was a member of my wedding party), and said, 'I knew you'd (Mr. Heintz) forgiven me for hitting Gail when we were kids after you asked me to dance at my wedding.' Hysterical no? What a lovely family the Heintz's. Cheryl Anderson (died at 13), Mimi Holmes and Brian Holmes and now Gail--all from cancer. It just breaks my heart. Gail (Heintz) Griskewicz, 57, of Windsor Locks, CT loving wife of Joseph Griskewicz, Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Gail was born December 31, 1957, in Hartford, CT the daughter of the late Harold F. and Margaret (Sullivan) Heintz. Gail was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School Class of 1976 and was employed with Pioneer Aerospace in South Windsor in their Accounts Receivable Dept. Gail was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary Church and Eucharistic Minister and coordinator for meals to the Immaculate Conception Shelter in Hartford. She was an avid reader and loved to spend time with her family and friends and watching her children’s sporting events, but Gail was happiest being on the beach. In addition to her husband, Joseph to whom she was married 32 years she is also survived by two children, Kelly Griskewicz of Fairfield, CT and Joseph Griskewicz, Jr. of Windsor Locks, CT; two sisters, Kathleen Heneghan and her husband, Michael of Windsor Locks and Margaret Hill and her husband, Henry of Torrington, CT. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Lisa, Dan, Maureen, Geoff, John, Dan, Michael and Amelia; her mother-in-law, Sophie Griskewicz of Poquonock, CT; brothers-in-law, John Griskewicz and partner, Karen of Bloomfield, CT, Jim Griskewicz and wife, Linda, Thomas Griskewicz all of Poquonock, CT.
